Become a Mental Health First Aider (MHFAider®)

Scroll Down To Learn Why & How

In the UK, one out of every six individuals encounters mental health issues in the workplace, while a third of managers admit to feeling ill-equipped to effectively support their team members dealing with mental health concerns.

There is an increasing demand for mental health support in the UK and it is important for colleagues to feel supported and cared for. This is why it is essential to support those in need in the workplace. Most of us would know how to help if we saw someone having a heart attack—we’d start CPR, or at the very least, call 999.. But too few of us would know how to respond if we saw someone having a panic attack or if we were concerned that a friend or co-worker might be showing signs of poor mental health.

So why choose to become a Mental Health First Aider

When more people are equipped with the tools they need to start a dialogue, more people can get the help they need. Mental Health First Aiders are a vital link between someone experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge and appropriate supports.

The use of the Mental Health First Aid Action Plan ALGEE method, which stands for:
Approach, Assess & Assist with any crisis
Listen and communicate non-judgmentally
Give support and information
Encourage appropriate professional help,
Encourage other supports

Become a Mental Health First Aider (MHFAider®)

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a training course which teaches people how to identify, understand and help someone who may be experiencing a mental health issue.

MHFA won’t teach you to be a therapist, but it will teach you to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis – and even potentially stop a crisis from happening.

You’ll learn to recognise warning signs of mental ill health and develop the skills and confidence to approach and support someone while keeping yourself safe.

What’s more, you’ll gain an understanding of how to support positive wellbeing and tackle stigma in the world around you.

You’ll also learn how to empower someone to access the support they might need for recovery or successful management of symptoms. This could include self-help books or websites, accessing therapy services through their GP, their school or place of work, online self-referral, support groups, and more.

By becoming an MHFAider® with us you’ll have access to continuous support – well beyond your initial certification – so you are confident, empowered and motivated to carry out your role.  You will get three years’ access to MHFAider® support and benefits which includes 24/7 digital support through the MHFAider Support App®. From there, you will find exclusive resources, ongoing learning opportunities and the benefit of joining England’s largest community of trained MHFAiders®.

Her delivery of the course was excellent; she explained each section in detail and was happy to revisit certain points and answer any questions that we had.I have found the content of the course very useful and informative; it will really help me in future conversations that I have with people, either in the work place or with friends and family, regarding mental health.
